For a larger family group or gathering of friends, the cottages are the perfect location for relaxing in a gloriously tranquil setting, yet with all the amenities of a bustling town nearby. With only a low-lying cliff edge and a near private beach separating you from the sea, you can enjoy the changing light of Suffolk’s huge skies, experience spectacular sunrises and sunsets, hear the sounds of the waves and appreciate nature at its most idyllic.

Consisting of two detached beach houses that can be booked separately or together, The Watch Houses take their name from World War II, when Royal Navy Wrens listened out for German submarines from this coastline. Both beach houses have been finished to a very high standard, and offer clean, contemporary styling that is the perfect complement to the huge views of sea and sky from the windows. The Listening Station has views towards the cliffs and beaches of Covehithe, while The Watch Room looks out onto Southwold’s iconic pier. Each property is of the same design, comfortably sleeping four in two double bedrooms. All the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms and the two bedrooms in each property are linked by a modern living and dining area.

Spend the morning just gazing on the amazing birdlife just outside your windows, then wander down to Southwold and browse the boutiques – you might end up buying some of the local catch for a mouthwatering supper. There is easy access to the quiet, peaceful beach just a 5 minute walk along the cliff. You’ll find plenty to keep you entertained beyond Southwold too. From stately homes including Royal Sandringham, through to boating, surfing, golf and more, you can be as lively or as relaxed as you want to be.
